Singing From A Resonant Place

Resonance is sort of the secret sauce, special magic, the je ne sais quoi of singing + getting a good tone. Resonance refers to an echoing vibration, a reverberant sound - think the kind of big, echoey, beautiful acoustics you get in an old church - and is, in my opinion, one of those crucial pieces of singing that will make SO many other pieces fall into place. In this video, I introduce us to the idea of resonance, what it is and what it isn’t, and what pieces of our vocal “machinery” tend to get in the way and prevent us from singing from a more resonant, easy place. In the next singing tip video, I’ll take you through a short humming exercise to help start you off “feeling your resonance” - a really cool move that can open your voice up and might just be the missing piece in your vocal practice you’ve been looking for.
